ServicesGutter Clearing

Gutter Clearing and Downspout Flushing in Amsterdam, NY

We clear your gutters and downspouts by hand, flush them to confirm water runs freely, and show you what we found. Booking on your own schedule, before leaves and ice pile up, keeps a small clog from turning into a fascia or foundation repair.

Clear gutters, planned instead of rushed

Gutters only work when water can move. Once leaves, seed pods and shingle grit settle in the trough, rain backs up, spills over the edge and soaks the ground right where your foundation sits. In winter, that trapped water freezes and adds weight the hangers were never meant to hold.

Most of the damage we see came from a clog that sat for one season too long. So we suggest putting gutter clearing on the calendar the way you would a furnace check: once after the leaves drop and, for many homes, once more in late spring. You pick the timing, you know the cost ahead of time, and nobody is on a ladder in a sleet storm.

If you are planning permanent lighting along your roofline, clear gutters matter there too. We like to start an install with a clean, solid gutter line so the track mounts straight and stays put.

What a gutter visit includes

Hand-cleared troughs

We scoop out leaves, twigs, needles and packed sludge from every run, bag the debris and haul it off. Nothing gets blown onto your lawn or flower beds.

Downspout flush

Each downspout gets flushed with water to check it drains from top to bottom. If one is packed, we work the clog loose rather than just clearing the opening.

Hanger and seam check

While we are up there, we look for loose hangers, sagging sections and leaking seams. You get an honest note on what is fine and what may need attention later.

Photos of what we found

We take before and after photos so you can see the condition of gutters you rarely look at up close.

Ground-level cleanup

We rake up any debris that falls during the work and leave walkways and the area around your downspouts tidy.

Signs your gutters are due

  • Water spilling over the edge

If rain sheets over the front of the gutter instead of running to the downspout, something is blocking the flow.

  • Plants growing up top

Seedlings or moss in the gutter line mean there is enough packed soil to hold roots. That material holds water against your fascia.

  • Sagging or pulling away

Wet debris is heavy. A run that dips or tips outward is often carrying weight it should not be.

  • Icicles and ice ridges

Big icicles along one stretch of roofline usually point to water that could not drain and froze in place.

  • Wet spots near the foundation

Puddles, washed-out mulch or a damp basement wall after rain can trace back to a downspout that has stopped carrying water away.

How the work goes

  1. 1

A call and a free quote

Tell us about your home, its height and roughly how many trees are nearby. We give you a free quote by phone and set a date that suits you.

  2. 2

    Setup and protection

We place ladders with stabilizers so they rest away from the gutter face, and keep our work clear of plantings and outdoor fixtures.

  3. 3

    Clearing and flushing

We clear each run by hand, then flush the downspouts and watch the water reach the ground.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and photos

Before we leave, we walk you through the photos, point out anything worth watching, and talk about when the next visit makes sense for your trees and roof.

What moves the price

Every home is a little different, so we quote after hearing about yours instead of guessing. The goal is a number you can plan around before we ever set up a ladder.

Length of gutter
More linear feet means more time. A ranch with two runs is a lighter job than a house with gutters on every side and a garage.
Height and roof pitch
Two- and three-story homes or steep roofs need taller ladders and more careful setup, which adds time.
How much has built up
A routine yearly visit goes faster than gutters that have gone a few seasons and hold packed, rooted sludge.
Nearby trees
Homes under mature maples, oaks or pines collect more debris and may benefit from a second visit each year.

Questions about clearing gutters

Something not covered here? (518) 629-1827

How often should my gutters be cleared?

Most homes do well with one visit in late fall after the leaves are down. If you have tall trees right over the roof, a second visit in late spring catches seed pods and blossoms. We can suggest a schedule after seeing your property.

Do I need to be home while you work?

No. We only need access to the outside of the house. Many people like to be there for the walkthrough at the end, but we can share the photos and notes afterward instead.

Will ladders damage my gutters or roof?

We use ladder stabilizers so the ladder rests against the roof or wall rather than pressing on the gutter itself. We work from the ladder and avoid walking on the roof whenever the job allows.

Should my gutters be cleared before getting permanent lighting?

It helps. A clear, solid gutter line gives the lighting track a straight edge to mount along, and it lets us spot loose hangers before anything is attached. We can plan both on the same visit or back to back.

Is the quote really free?

Yes. Give us a call, tell us about your home, and we will give you a free quote by phone with no obligation to book.
